What Members Thought
I had mixed feelings about this. It's hard to come away from a book not feeling any sense of hope for the main characters. I think the author based them on his grandparents, and I know not all stories can have happy endings. I think this was a true portrayal of what like was like in this part of the States at the turn of the century, but I can only take so much desperation!

It's an Oprah's Book Club List selection. Which means it is depressing as hell. Why can't she ever pick something uplifting??!
