An impressive science fiction book. I loved Atwood's use of flashbacks; they led the story to unfold much more interestingly. The topics discussed definitely left me enthralled and I am continuing to mull over them.

I almost liked this book.
My main question after reading it is WHY? WHY did she write this? Did she want to stress the dangers of genetic engineering and porn? WHY did she make the world such a horrible place even before the annihilation of the human race? WHY did the title include a character that is barely developed and superficial at best? Actually - WHY were BOTH characters in the title only superficially presented to the reader? We got a sense of who Crake was, but not WHY he was that way or ...more

I first read this when it came out in 2003, but re-read as preparation for her new book "The Year of the Flood". It's quite as I remember it--funny, depressing, and all too likely. Though I have a new appreciation for the wolvogs.
