The Blood Guard is another book on the Beehive Children's list. I'm not particularly a fantasy adventure fan, but this novel captivated me. Ronan (don't call me Evelyn) Truelove discovers that his father has been kidnapped when his mom picks him up from school and they become involved in a high speed car chase. A new middle grade series, one that has seemingly normal people in it yet, underneath it, they're part of a great conspiracy to either protect or rid the world of the 36 Pure Ones (with a slight explanation of the Talmudic concept). Sounds great, right? And in parts, the execution is perfect, with people who don't die, amazing tricks with swords, a wild RV ride and more. That's on the good side.
