DAYUM.
Got handed this book at the Random House book at a conference by my editor, had never heard of it. Started hearing lots of buzz, read the first page, could not stop thinking about it. Read the entire thing in less than a day, still cannot stop thinking about it. Could not possibly love it more. This is an amazing look at a life. And at life itself. It's spare and beautiful and is almost a character study of Madeline, a young woman whom I just love so much.

This book blew me away, yet I hardly know what to write about it. It hurt my heart to read, and I was totally emotionally exhausted after finishing it.
The book covers topics not often seen in YA, and thus gave an interesting take on the usual "girl meets boy" formula. However, while I loved most of it (even if it did break my heart), I thought the ending too abrupt, and leaving too many questions behind. I would have given this book more stars, but...that ending.
I really enjoyed the book to a certain point. Madeline is house-bound due to a rare illness. She "meets" her neighbor Ollie through her bedroom window. Classic YA angst-filled love story. And then...
That ending.
I have no idea what the author was thinking of, but it honestly ruined the book for me. I won't spoil it for the legion of YA fans who will read this book, because it did get rave reviews. I couldn't even grab a copy of it at Bo ...more

Because of Madeline's illness, she can't leave her house. When she begins to have a relationship with Olly, the boy who moves in next door, her life changes dramatically.

Push through the super-YA-ness, because it's really good.

The good was the voice of Madeline and her spoiler book reviews, but the plot was too Bubble Boy/Fault in Our Stars/House episode for me to love it. That the nurse, Carla, didn't once question the care really bothered me (wouldn't a home care professional want to see a doctor's notes, not just the patient's mother's notes, even if the mother was a doctor?!), but of course for her to do that would pretty much kill the plot. So if you don't let reality intrude, it's probably a better read.
