My trouble with zeitgeisty books is that the zeitgeist has usually got up and gone by the time I get around to reading the book! Super Sad True Love Story is a 2010 novel set in the near future, but the world Shteyngart describes already seems dated. In 2012, we have bigger things to worry about than the decline of America. Eh. This book didn't really do it for me, although for a bit at the end I was sucked in to what was happening. I often find books that are about the near future with a lot of nearly recognizable techno-babble to be clever, but nothing more. I thought this book need more story and more relate-able characters. ...more
