I am abandoning this one. I gave it 180 pages, which is more than I normally give a book, but I find everything about this book irritating. The plot is slow and plodding, the drama is artificial, the characters are one-dimensional, and even the font of the "magic" words is annoying. It seems to me to be a mash up of bits stolen from other (much better) series ~ everything form Lord of the rings to Harry Potter and many in between. L - O - N - G. I tend to pick the longest books I can get my hands on since I read so fast, but sometimes long doesn't equal good. I liked the book but it took a while for me to get into it. But once the story got going it moved fairly quickly. But, occasionally I felt like it might never end. There are a lot of characters to get to know which I found somewhat confusing at first. I'm intrigued by the story though and will be reading the second book in the series later next week. I really like th ...more
