This was just way too dragged out for me. Sorry folks, this is one time when I feel the abridged version would have been better. 1462 pages was about 1200 too long!

Can't remember what publication I read, but I know it was unabridged. Alternately bitter, venegeful, fantastical, drug addled, and wild. One of the best great escapes ever written. Extravagant opium drug scenes and imagery. Disturbing and horrifying treatment of black servant had me appreciating the irony of the Count of Monte Cristo having his own sorry behind on the receiving end of miraculous justice. ...more
