Really horribly long, but still fabulous. The escape, the vengeance, wonderfully drawn. There's a reason this is a classic.
Reread 2022: I swear I don't remember most of this, did I read an abridged version? I do not remember reading 1,200 pages, and some of the characters and plot lines drew a total blank.

What can I say about this book that hasn't been said 15 bazillion times ? I love it , I loved it more this time than the last time I read it, and I am sure when I read it again I will find something there again to make me love it even more. It is a classic for a reason.

Can't remember what publication I read, but I know it was unabridged. Alternately bitter, venegeful, fantastical, drug addled, and wild. One of the best great escapes ever written. Extravagant opium drug scenes and imagery. Disturbing and horrifying treatment of black servant had me appreciating the irony of the Count of Monte Cristo having his own sorry behind on the receiving end of miraculous justice.
