That made my heart hurt, but in a good way! So beautifully written and the way it approaches all the topics (religious background, first love, teen pregnancy, wanting to leave home) could have easily gone into a typical place, yet it all felt fresh and real.
The 'Before' and 'After' chapters back to back were so wonderfully done, easily weaving into each other, supporting the adjacent chapter with back story or context for what comes next. I am a sucker for non-linear narrative, and while this do ...more

Before everything went to hell, Reena Montero had loved Sawyer LeGrande for as long as she could remember. Watching Sawyer and wanting him from afar in their small Florida town came as natural as breathing. Sawyer always seemed so distant, so unattainable until one day he suddenly isn't. After circling each other for years, Reena and Sawyer are finally together for a torrid, messy moment before it all falls apart. Sawyer blows out of town without a word and Reena is left behind. Pregnant.

16 and pregnant, and the father's gone? Plus a devoutly Catholic father? The life that Reena imagined has just crumbled around her. Two years later she's in a local college, living at home and dating her BFF's brother when Sawyer returns. Of course he wants in on Reena's life, just as he did before. Can she trust him? Has he changed? And could he be a good father to Hannah? Few surprises, sadly, but the romance may keep teens reading.

I love a good contemporary, and when I heard the premise of How to Love, I thought it sounded fantastic. I heard great things about it from other bloggers and was lucky enough to score a digital galley. How to Love took me very little time, because I found the story engrossing, but I ultimately didn’t care for the romantic plotline.
