Many reviews focus on the overall plot--unique girl thinks she has psychic powers and wants to solve mysteries. She's quirky and a little bit annoying and fun. That part of the story gets three stars.
However, this is one of the best books I've read for teens/tweens that deal with heavy subjects--suicide and mental illness--the way kids deal. This was an entertaining pre-teen mystery, although I found the "psychic investigator" title a tad misleading. She's really more of a wanna-be investigator with little sense of the usual social graces, but still somehow a bit endearing. My only quibble with the audio version is that Gilda sounds too young - although this is probably mostly due to the fact that I'm used to hearing the same narrator on the Clementine books and think of her as the voice of Clementine, a much younger character. Fun teen mystery. I'm not sure if I hate Gilda or like her - the author makes it clear that she isn't quite as smart as she thinks she is. That kind of makes me root for Gilda and get mad at the author. I don't like laughing behind people's backs.
