For some reason, the cover of this book didn't immediately grab me. And the premise seemed a little too "wink wink nudge nudge see what I did there." But after having so many friends recommend this book, I just had to try it.
LAUGHED SO HARD.
This is an absolutely hilarious look at what life is like for "Prince Charming." Does he have a name? Is he the same guy who saved Rapunzel, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White? (The answers: yes, and no!)

I'm a huge fractured fairy tale fan, and this is a wonderful addition to that genre!
In The Hero's Guide we learn the truth behind all those Prince Charming stories (they're not named "Charming", for one) and that the stories have been a little mangled thanks to the bards. Frederic, the foppish, fearful Prince in the Cinderella story, decides to go in search of Ella (she's eager for adventure, not a safe, cossetted life at home) and on the way meets Princes Gustav (Sleeping Beauty), Liam (Briar R ...more

Everyone has heard of Prince Charming. But did you know that Prince Charming isn't just one guy. True story: There are four Princes Charming. And those dumb bards never even bothered to get their names right in their songs.
Sure, Frederic didn't do much beyond dancing quite well with a girl named Ella at a ball. And maybe Gustav didn't come off all that well after his attempted rescue of Rapunzel since she actually had to save him. But Liam is a hero through and through; he had to fight to overco ...more

Although my humor can be quite sarcastic and dry, I actually love puns and cheesy jokes. Incidentally, I also enjoy fairy tale re-tellings and fantasy novels, so when I got an e-mail to review The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom, I jumped at the chance. Healy’s novel had me chuckling in a few places, but it wasn’t quite what I hoped it would be.

Debut author Healy breathes new life into some old and oft-used source material in this delightful comedy of errors. Princes Frederick, Gustav, Liam, and Duncan, (from Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White, respectively) better known by the dreaded name “Prince Charming” thanks to those lazy bards, attempt to live down their reputations while discovering happily ever after is not all it’s cracked up to be. Problems with each of their would-be princesses have brought them together

This is perfect for young readers who like their fairy tales slightly fractured with an emphasis on humor. The story follows four Princes Charming (or Prince Charmings? the question is debated) as they attempt to overcome various disappointments in the way their 'happily ever afters' turned out. There's plenty of slapstick humor, wordplay, swordplay, giants, witches, near escapes, and eventual heroics (even when princesses manage to rescue themselves). Although the book is a bit long, and might

Josh loved it. Loved, loved, loved it. Me? Eh. It was 400+ pages of out-loud reading in several different voices. Oy.

Really fun middle grade fantasy. Loosely based around several fairy tale characters, but from the "Prince Charming" point of view.
