I should state right away that I am not a huge fan, I have never managed more than a page or so of a Dickens book before. This one is mercifully short and I read it over the Christmas holidays which helped to add the the atmosphere.
I had to admire the skill of the author in crafting and moulding the idea of Christmas as a season of joy, goodwill and inclusivness, so much of what is important in our modern idea of Christmas began on these pages. It is packed with gems.
