Setting
The book is set in the present, in England. Because it takes place in England J.K Rowling mentioned a lot of English habits that really characterize the book.
When the story starts it’s set in a small town, and in the beginning, in the first three chapters, that doesn’t change. Later on the main character goes to a school somewhere else in England, and that has a lot of influence on the book. It gets really exciting.

Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone is about wizards that go to school, make friends, study, play Quidditch and encounter danger. It’s about a young wizard, who does not know he is a wizard when the book starts. When he discovers he is a wizard, he is sent to Hogwarts (a school for witchcraft and wizardry). At Hogwarts the main character learns more about himself and his past.

Character
One of the main characters in Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone is Hermione Granger. Hermione is one of the three main characters and together with Ron Weasley and Harry Potter they are the best friends. Hermione is probably the smartest person you’ll ever know. Though she studies a lot, she still has time to hang with Ron and Harry and she saves them a lot… Without Hermione Granger Ron and Harry wouldn’t have survived the first twelve chapters.
I totally love Hermione, because she always remains herself and she always defends the ones she cares about.

Title
The book is called Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone. This is not at all a weird or irrelevant title. I totally get why Rowling chose it.
Why she chose to put “Harry Potter” in the title seems clear: the book is all about Harry.
Why she chose to put “sorcerer’s stone” in the title does also make sense. I don’t want to spoil, but halfway, Harry discovers he needs to find the sorcerer’s stone, so that his worst enemy cannot be resurrected.

Opinion
I didn’t just “like” the story, I loved it. The book has everything a good book needs. It’s very original and it is the exact genre I like: a mix of fiction, young adult and fantasy.
I think everyone likes this book, because everyone is able to really connect with the main characters. Rowling did that very well. Almost every character has something you can recognize, so you really feel everything the characters feel.
