OH MAN WHAT A RIDE. And wow I haven't felt this emotional for a book in the absolute longest time. Perhaps it's because this book is the last to my favourite series. Or maybe it's because it has to do with the fact that it has my ultimate favourite character, and that we know from the very beginning of the series, was that he was going to die. Three books of building anticipation for the very moment. And let me tell you, it was not disappointing.

Now that I´ve had a little over two weeks to actually think about it, it´s time to write something, right. If I didn´t do that, I´d surely never get to it later.

Here´s why it´s hard to articulate my thoughts. I´ve spent years putting this series on a pedestal, making up theories, looking for little clues that...in the end...I´m sad to say...didn´t prove to be there. I gotta admit, this book is one of the reasons why I've neglected to update my blog. I binged-read it for 12 hours, then I had to stop and reflect about what just happened.

I'm going to assume that you read the first three books of the series, because there isn't much point reading The Raven King first. So by now, I'm sure you know how lovely and wonderful our little band of heroes is. I'm sure you're also familiar with Gansey's quest and Blue's curse, as well as Ronan's dreams and Adam's abiliti I gotta admit, this book is one of the reasons why I've neglected to update my blog. I binged-read it for 12 hours, then I had to stop and reflect about what just happened.

I'm going to assume that you read the first three books of the series, because there isn't much point reading The Raven King first. So by now, I'm sure you know how lovely and wonderful our little band of heroes is. I'm sure you're also familiar with Gansey's quest and Blue's curse, as well as Ronan's dreams and Adam's abilities. Needless to say, I enjoyed the first three books so much that the anticipation for its finale was almost physically painful for me. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed The Raven Cycle as a whole, but I felt that this book wasn't as satisfying as I hoped.

Don't get me wrong, it had beautiful writing - in typical Stiefvater style. Her words have a distinct flair that reminds you of a complex dish or expensive perfume. Definitely no complaints there. The pacing threw me off. If you thought The Raven Boys was slow, this one barely moved at all. There I was, seated on the couch for hours, I've read over a hundred pages and absolutely nothing happened to move the plot forward. It got to a point where it was so tedious I was reading just to be able to say I finished it.

Things picked up during the last quarter of the book. Ronan and Adam dominated this book, I mean they were doing things and learning as they go along. Meanwhile, Gansey...bright, charming, princely...seemed to stop growing along. It's a shame because I felt like he was only there to provide a rally point and become an instrument for others, but he was the same Gansey I met back in the first book. As a Gansey fan, I expected him to do more in this finale, or do something completely out of character.

Finally, I've been expecting for a couple of things to happen in this finale too. I felt cheated after I finished the book. Of course I have no say about what should happen or not happen in Stiefvater's story, but it just left an impression on me that TRK took the easy way out.

Anyway, as with finales go, I think it's always with giving it a shot. I also seem to be in a small minority with regards to my opinion about TRK, which I'm pleased about because people generally love it. No matter how underwhelmed I felt with the finale, The Raven Cycle as a whole remains to be a well-written and entertaining YA series.

OMG!!! THIS BOOK!!!! SO GOOD!! I finished it December 3 2019 at 6:44 pm! I think I cried for about 15 minutes and my dad walked into my room and when he saw me he walked right out. LMAO!!! This book was such an emotional story. It filled me to tears and I can't wait to read it again. So much happened in this book I don't even think i remember what happened in the beginning.

This was a really enjoyable series overall! I loved the characters and the atmosphere. The story was very intriguing throughout and the writing was just wonderful. I felt myself losing steam during some points in the book which made me lose trap of some of the threads, but still really loved how it ended. I would definitely revisit this entire series in the future.
