Adam is ambivalent about group therapy for OCD until super-hot girl Robyn walks in and becomes the focus of his dreams and recovery. That's the surface plot of "Unlikely Hero", but I found the book to be much more nuanced and genuine than it sounds at first glance. The book delves into the complexity of mental health struggles, friendship and family issues. This book surprised me in how much I was moved by it - I was actually crying at the end! I am so impressed with the books I have read lately that take on the weight of adolescent mental illness. I really appreciated the wonderfully real life characters in this book. I felt so close to them. I too have a bit of OCD and while it's not to their degree it can be difficult to deal with at times. This is definitely a can't miss read! ...more

3 1/2. It was slow going, but a good story. Adam (Batman) & Robyn meet in a teen OCD group. On top of all the normal teen issues, they have to deal with their compulsions. The group all take super hero names.

Exceptional read that gave a realistic account of students dealing with mental health issues. I like that the author had a realistic ending, instead of the typical, happily ever after.

I really enjoyed this. Both funny and heartbreaking, the story humanizes the struggles of life, both for neuroatypical people and not.

The main character had a great voice, and the narration captured it.
