I had wanted to read this book since it came out earlier last year. The premise interested me but several of my teen patrons said it was only okay. After reading Red Queen I have to say I agree with them. Nothing horrible but nothing special either. I won't be reading the rest of the series. ...more

First, let me say there is a second book, so don't be upset when this book ends abruptly.

Second, like other reviewers I too felt like this is a rehashed tale of many told before. However, most YA novels are. I don't think Victoria should be docked for revamping what is basically x-men combined with the hunger games. It's okay to retell a known story in your own way.

The Reds (commoners) and the Silvers (those with special abilities) make this a really good book. Mare, a Red, but engaged to one of the king's sons, is treading on very thin ice in the palace. With lots of action & a surprise ending to this volume (unless you pick up on the clues), I am looking forward to reading Book 2. ...more
