What Members Thought

This series has been so hyped that my expectations were high and I didn't absolutely love it as I thought I would. But I did enjoy the story, found the prose well-written, and the narrative well-paced. I will be reading another in the "Lunar Chronicles" series (assignment for a Fairy Tale/Fantasy in YA class), but I don't believe that I will be completely faithful to the series as a whole.

I love when I stumble upon a fun series that is already complete. The concept for this book, a fairy tale retelling with Cinderella as a cyborg, is right up my alley. The world building is great, the characters are fabulous, and the writing is strong. I can't wait to read more books in this series. (Confession: I've already started Scarlet.)

Cinderella as a cyborg. Why does a prince fall for her out of the blue? He's a prince so it is understandable that she (and any other female) would fall for him. I didn't know when I started reading the book it was not a one-and-done. Thought she would somehow win the prince over at the ball. Glass slipper was a mechanical foot???? Oops - next book, I guess.

I really liked this book. You can still recognize the elements from Cinderella, but they are retold in a wonderful way. I love the scifi elements of this book. I also love Cinder. She's a very strong character. Kai is a sweetheart. He's a good prince. I did predict the big reveal at the end, but that didn't take away from the story. This is a great book for scifi and Cinderella lovers alike.

Sadly, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Oh well. At least now I can actually really talk about it with the many students who've read it and loved it (or not). I can see why it's hugely popular, though.
