“Benny Imura couldn’t hold a job, so he took to killing.

It was the family business. He barely liked his family – and by his family he meant his older brother ‘Mr. Freaking Perfect Tom Imura’ - and he definitely like didn’t like the idea of ‘business.’ Or work. The only part of the deal that sounded like it might be fun was the actual killing.”

A great coming of age novel that just so happens to take place during the zombie apocalypse. Though the book started out a little slow it was definitely worth it to setup the story and the characters. Once I got halfway through the book I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading the sequel. ...more

Weirdly "preachy" for a zombie novel. It felt too heavy-handed with the, "Zombies are people, too," stance. Pretty good. I know this is #1 of a series, but I feel this can also be a stand-alone. I knew Tom was going to reappear somewhere along the way just not sure when. Benny always blamed Tom for his parents deaths, but in the end, learned the truth about that day and learned to forgive & respect Tom.
