A sobering reminder of the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina. My heart hurts from Reading this but I'm glad it exists. Everyone should know what happened and never forget.

Finished this and immediately picked up the The Great American Dust Bowl the next time I was at the library. This is an expert use of the medium to convey information and experiences about the event. Well balanced use of images and text - often factual portrayals in a graphic medium can get overburdened by text, but Brown makes sure that the illustrations carry their weight of the story.

While watching news reports about Hurricane Katrina is still a vivid memory for me, over ten years have past and most of my teen patrons were probably too young to remember much of the event. This graphic novel is an excellent introduction to Hurricane Katrina. The drawings and words work well together to paint a grim but fair depiction of the catastrophe. In addition, the book includes several pages of source notes and bibliography.

This is the very first GN I have ever rated better than a 1 1/2. I do not like GNs, but this one was short, sweet and to the point. My only objection was on the page (left hand side) where, in the 1st sentence, it spoke of "policemen"; then in the last sentence in the same paragraph referred to them as "cops" - demeaning, in my book. It gave the facts, gruesome as they were, & the government's involvement (or not). They didn't judge, just gave the hard, cold facts.
