This is my second war/history book in a row, and it's ALSO really good! I learned so much from this one, too! The story was engaging and fascinating, and holy wow, Nixon was ... not good.
I'm just really glad that more narrative non-fiction like this is being published for teens, as this is the kind of thing that would have gotten me really interested in reading more about history when I was a teen. ...more

This award winning non-fiction book for teens has gotten me all excited about good non-fiction again. Full disclosure, I listened to this book. However, it was amazing all of the things about government lies and cover-ups that we should all know about, but don't. Daniel Ellsberg, our fearless protagonist, fought hard to show us how these kinds of non-transparencies in government are not welcome and we should all be fighting just as hard. Much better than Bomb and Port Chicago 50. I am not much of a non-fiction reader, but this one was interesting in that I was considerably younger when these events took place & remember VERY little about them. Daniel Ellsberg's name was familiar, but I knew nothing of what was happening. And - I should have since I was not a youngster. Solidified my thoughts about RR and RMN, & really opened my eyes to some of the facts of the Vietnam War. Good choice for the Non-Fiction Award finalist.

A gripping account of the Vietnam War and the release of the Pentagon Papers. Like with his other books, Sheinkin presents history as thrilling and relevant to today.
