This was a book you could not put down. Ana, as a young girl, saw far more than a child should have to see and experience. The trauma of what she went through was life altering. Taking the trip back to her birth country was hard, but something she had to do for her sanity. Did not expect to like this book, but read it in one day. At times, I forgot it was fiction.

I really liked the story, how it really brings home the horrors of war, both during and after. I do kind of wish the story had been structured slightly differently, so we'd met Ana when she's older first, but it worked the way it is too. ...more
