I am typically not a fan of women’s fiction, even when it’s historic. But the first two books in the Emily Lake series truly worked for me. And so did this one for the most part.

An Emmy Lake book has a way of cheering you up despite the difficult and upsetting things which may happen in the book, because Emmy always finds a way to be upbeat and positive and she gathers friends around her. She fights for the underdog and fights for what is right.

Back into war time London, with Emmy and co, is always sort of comforting despite these books failing to shy away from the harsher realities of living through the Blitz.
I love the characters, they’re like old friends just waiting to welcome you home. There is a sort of “twist” in this book which I will admit I didn’t see coming and it definitely added to the story. For me this section made this book.
Four stars rather than five because I found it a little hard to get into at the start. And also ...more
