I’ve lost count, long ago, how many times I’ve read this beautiful book- this sweet series. In the beginning, it helped me through my grief when I lost my mother. Through the years it’s been happiness, comfort, and all the in betweens. Each time finding something new while my heart glows.

Mitford takes care of its own!

This is the first book in a gentle series about a minister and his flock in the small southern town of Mitford. Characters include a mongrel dog, irrascible church secretary, orphaned boy, beautiful neighbor, elderly couple, etc. Lovely to read and very enjoyable.
I will continue reading this series.

How do you criticize a book that is sweet and nice with a very slow and quiet pace? Is it right to say anything bad about it? Probably not. Yet I don't think I will read another Mitford book. There was nothing really wrong with the book, yet I have no desire to go back to Mitford. It was a nice town, full of nice people, who were nice to each other in a very nice way. John McDonough is a fabulous narrator and, in this series, he is the perfect Father Tim.
