Bees picks up exactly where the last book left off - in 1779 on Frasers Ridge, NC. The Revolutionary War is in full swing, and much of the action is about to move down South. It ends in the spring of 1781. We get to spend time with our favorite characters - and meet several new characters - including some real life characters such as Francis Marion (aka the Swamp Fox).

Another weighty tome from the irrepressible Ms Gabaldon with further adventures of all the characters we have become rather addicted to over the series. I have similar feelings about this book as I did about the past few novels: while I adore Claire and her irreverent sense of humour, her medical skills and her love for the gallant highlander Jamie Fraser; the American War of Independence is boring me to distraction. This was a long one. However, I just love listening to this series, the reader is so wonderful that I can't imagine reading the pages and not listening so the length doesn't bother me.
I'm not sure if this book is longer than any of the others - I haven't really compared them. Lots of things are going on. The Fraser's are building a new house after the old one burned down. The Revolution is heating up with quite a few British wins and things are tense on the ridge with both factions settled there ...more
