What a fun book. The blend of humour, fantasy and action was pretty close to perfectly done in this book. If you've seen the movie, you know what to expect, as the film is a pretty faithful adaptation of the novel. One thing the novel does do that the movie doesn't is give the back stories of the various characters, so we learn more about Inigo and Fezzik. Inigo's backstory was particularly good and his famous line - "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." - real ...more

I read The Princess Bride as book 4 in reddit's 52 books in 52 weeks challenge. I thought it was the best book of the month (Theme: adventure) by far. I loved the writing style, and I loved that there were little asides throughout.

Had the ending been different ("Buttercup's baby") it would have been 5 stars, but the latter part of the book, including all that stuff about Stephen King, was confusing and made me want to skip bits - I'd not felt like that throughout the rest of it.
