I give it 4 stars. It was much more entertaining than I had anticipated after the first few chapters. It was probably one of the first novels to have a courtroom drama, it was a sympathetic account of life for poor workers in mill towns and it set forth a prescription for improving industrial relations. One plot piece drove me mad though. When Will told Mary of his love for Margaret and left her the accordion which he had bought with the last of his money, Mary was so wrapped up in her own miser
