Updated: Many friends have recommended this one and it was fairy tale theme month, so I picked this one up again. Really enjoyed it!

Couldn't finish this one - made it about 30%. Too much fairy tale and too much YA. I thought it to be too predictable.

If these things do not bother you, it will probably be quite enjoyable. The world is interesting. Those few things are just not my cup of tea. ...more

I really liked this Si-Fi re-telling of Cinderella. I laughed and cried. I loved Cinder. Hated her step mother and the mean sister - they were so heartless and abusive. I love that the prince was a real person. All of the characters were complex and multidimensional. Can't wait to read the next story in this series. ...more

I flew through reading this highly entertaining that really capture the cruel side of what we know as cinderella. This reminds me of Memoirs of a Geisha, and also Ever After. However, I do have to say that the main character just lacks confidence. This is a theme that I have been seeing throughout many fantasy novels such as this. I honestly love Cinderella and all remakes/versions of the story. I love evil queens, kings, enchantment and everything else. This story shared those elements but with so many new variables. I fell in love with the characters. When they were happy I felt it and the opposite is also true. I finished this book in a frenzy because I just couldn't get enough. Such a disappointment. I'd do 0 stars if available. Don't waste your time or money! I don't normally do ratings but I thought I might save someone from wasting money as I have. Here we go...

I don't mind retelling of fairytales but at least be imaginative and write a great storyline! I knew from the first mention of her, that Cinder was the long lost Lunar princess. I also knew that she was going to be used for the cure of a mysterious plague that would later be - This book was highly overrated.

I don't mind retelling of fairytales but at least be imaginative and write a great storyline! I knew from the first mention of her, that Cinder was the long lost Lunar princess. I also knew that she was going to be used for the cure of a mysterious plague that would later be -spoiler alert already I had also already figured out- blamed on lunars but that she would also fail at that. This book was so predictable, I feel like instead of the story I read an incredibly long book jacket since there was nothing of merit in the story lines at all.

There was also little no character development. The book ends with the same spoiled, inexperienced prince, turned new emperor, Kai who doesn't seem to be mourning the death of his father from the week before more than the 5 minutes when he passed and who has zero grace under pressure. Kai vows multiple times to never agree to marry the lunar queen since his father had been fighting against it for more than half of his life but after spending one week with her (the same week after his fathers death) he just caves and agrees because she uses the same idol threats she has been spouting all those years. Then there is poor little Cinder the misunderstood, unloved cyborg pining after the childish prince. She never likes herself and never tries to be the heroine. She only loathes and moans about her life for the entire book! At the end she has given up on life and is waiting to die instead of fighting. The dr leaves the cell door open and she just sits there in jail. She never embraces that she is different or cares that someone went through hell to save her by making her 36% cyborg. Not even half of who she is and she cannot embrace her differences and rise to the challenge. Nope. Instead she wallows in self pity.

I bought this book as an audio book and I'm still trying to figure out my peoples from future China have an backwoods Irish accent? But still honor Chinese traditions and wear kimonos. This book was a circle jerk. I obviously will not be reading the rest of the series
