Loved, loved, loved Cinder ! Not only a fantastic twist on the Cinderella tale but a wonderful audio book. - Instead of losing her slipper she lost her......; 0 You have to read this if you love fairy tales.

I really should have started reading this soon and I feel like I’m late to the game lol
Anyway I really enjoyed it. I’m a huge sucker for fairytale retellings or inspired on so this was just such a treat to read.

I am not much of a YA reader - how many different ways can you combine highschool, the supernatural, and a mean girl who is in competition with the heroine for the hot guy? But Cinder is something really different. Inspired by the fairytale Cinderella, Cinder is a cyborg mechanic in a plague ridden future and in the role of the glass slipper is Cinders high tech foot prothesis.

When I first added this to my list, I wasn't sure this would really be something I would like. If I had made a shelf of maybe-but-unlikely, this would have gone there. Why? I love fantasy and urban fantasy and some sci-fi. This, to me, is more sci-fi than any other label I've seen slapped on it. I didn't know if I would like the cyborg thing or anything. What attracted me to this was the fairytale retelling. That is what got it on the list. What got it into my hands was a TBR challenge of pickin

What got it into my hands was a TBR challenge of picking books already in your pile to read from instead of grabbing for that new book that is calling your name. I'm glad I did. This was a story that completely engulfed me. I was glued to the pages, eager to read more.

I've read quite a few retellings and most are sub-par. Most are such poorly thought stories that just don't do any justice to the original story. This was not the case for Cinder. I never would have thought up of this premise if it were me. A retelling? Sure. Who would have thought taking that retelling and placing it so far into the future where people have colonized the moon, the world as we know it has turned to dust and for those badly injured, they can have surgeries in which to complete them, making them cyborgs. Although being a cyborg is much like that poor stray dog you can't seem to do anything with than a person to the people in this book. Very intriguing and well crafted story. Props to Meyer for the great job she did on the story of Cinderella and actually making it a worthwhile retelling instead of some meaningless drivel.

What made this so much better than others, to me, was that the story is only resembling the original Cinderella. It doesn't follow the first story exactly, but with a new environment. While Cinderella was pretty much a housekeeper/maid, Cinder is a mechanic owned by her stepmother. There is the added trouble of the disease and the imminent war that has been hanging over the empire for generations with the Lunar people. This took the fairytale and added danger and intrigue.

When I finished this, I stared blankly at the end of the book wondering where the rest of it was. Then it hit me. I have to get my hands on the next book! That plan was to wait and maybe listen to the audiobook while out camping. I'm not sure I can wait another two weeks and then go through the process of listening to it over several days (or longer) to continue this story. I'm pretty sure I need to buy the next one ASAP and get reading.

This book has been on my to read list for a long while now and a book group I'm in picked it for this month's read, so I bought it to join in and was very pleasantly surprised. It is supposed to be a YA book, but it didn't really feel like one. Yes, the main character was young, but not a schoolgirl.

Cinder is a cyborg, mostly human with a few futuristic enhancements following a serious accident many years before. She lives with her adoptive mother/guardian and 2 adoptive sisters; one being nice This book has been on my to read list for a long while now and a book group I'm in picked it for this month's read, so I bought it to join in and was very pleasantly surprised. It is supposed to be a YA book, but it didn't really feel like one. Yes, the main character was young, but not a schoolgirl.

Cinder is a cyborg, mostly human with a few futuristic enhancements following a serious accident many years before. She lives with her adoptive mother/guardian and 2 adoptive sisters; one being nice and the other not. Cinder runs a workshop in the market, fixing up robots and other electronic items and one day, who should appear in her shop, but the Prince Kai. Like in the traditional Cinderella story, which this one is very loosely based on, the Prince is holding a ball and rumour has it that he is looking for his bride, but there is more going on behind the scenes than the public know about.

This story is set in a very futuristic Earth in which, following another World War, various countries have come together as Unions and we now also have the Lunar people from the moon, whose leader is quite a ruthless woman looking to rule the world!

There is also a plague devastating New Beijing and Cinder, being a cyborg, is "volunteered" by her mother/guardian for testing, but it soon becomes apparent that Cinder is immune to the disease. The doctor working on her, finds out some things about her that she never even knew herself, having no memories of her life before the accident.

Cinder, herself, also finds out things which could change the way her city is run and ends up going to the ball in a borrowed dress and an old ill fitting foot in try to help the Prince, but her timing was not quite right and Cinder ends up making a few revelations to her family and the Prince that she really didn't want revealing. Cue...cliffhanger ending!

I loved this story and yes it is a future style Cinderella, but it was so much better than the traditional love story we all know. There was no fairy godmother as such but Iko, Cinder's robot friend and the doctor kind of helped out in a way as did the Prince unknowingly to enable Cinder to go to the ball. There was no instant love and falling in love forever from Cinder and the Prince, but there was definitely a spark there between them, but whether that spark will continue or whether it will be allowed to be explored, will hopefully be revealed in the next book. Because of the cliffhanger ending, the Prince did not find his bride and live happily ever after, but I do hope that eventually they will get together.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to get ahold of the next one and carry on this story! ...more
