Omg I didn’t know this was a novel! I watched the film in high school and holy sh*t was it gory and bloody AF! Guess I better buckle up if i’m gonna read this! 😂

The overabundance of violence did nothing to portray the ethical premise of the author. While I can relate that our day-to-day world may be at times startingly similar to the one depicted here - if anyone doubts it, they may try walking at night alone around some of the seedier disctricts of their city (Warning: do not try this at home!) :)

Is it sad that this is one of my favorite books? And, it's because we learn about the backstories of the protagonists, including the "selfish" ones. Many novels from Japan focus on the societal impacts of individuals and their reactions to it. Add a post-apocalyptic and fascist society, and you have "Battle Royale." In addition, this novel is NOT like "The Hunger Games" trilogy! I understand that this was written after the author read "Lord of the Flies." Can someone confirm that for me please? ...more

My sister told me to read this in one day, and I did it!
I am the slowest reader so for me to read 600+ pages it takes a lot of effort.

This book was SO suspenseful, and I just could not stop reading.
The plot is so addicting and suspenseful (yeah I totally spilled my tea on the book when I heard the doorbell since I was just so invested and the outside world startled me)
While I could not keep up with all the characters (I totally forgot all those names the minute I read them except 4)

I decided to tackle this before Hunger Games. Glad I did. Gory, yes. A bit over the top, yes. Now I want to see the movie. Let me say this,beyond the blood and guts, there is a deeper aspect to this story. Its about government, society, etc. We should all pay attention to.
