I am not the type of person that enjoys historical fiction, at all. But this book was so good, it's obvious why it won a Pulitzer and why it took 10 years for the author to finish writing it. I have never read anything so beautiful and yet so haunting at the same time. I would definitely recommend it to anyone! ...more

3.5ish stars rounded down because I was a little disappointed after all the good things I had heard about this one. Not a bad WWII historical fiction just wordier and longer than I felt was necessary. I found myself kind of bored at times and if I hadn't been listening to it I likely would have given up on it. Narration was good and easy to listen to. I often like time jumps but found the numerous amount of them kind of off putting.

Every Middle-High School student should read this book. Even in my era of the Baby-Boomer, I had a cushy childhood. This book will teach children and adults alike, to appreciate the lifestyles we enjoy and just maybe, maybe we will feel a little less angry when the internet goes down.
