Is it possible to love a book about the villain that you possibly hated in the main series? Why yes, yes it is! I haven't disliked a book I have read by Ilona Andrews and I don't think that is going to change. You should really read this book before you read Magic Triumphs, you have to see this side of Hugh. But also make sure you read the first 9 books of the Kate Daniels series before you read this one, you have to see that side of Hugh too to truly appreciate this book.

I wasn't sure that Ilona Andrews could make me care about Hugh. Admittedly, it took me a few chapters to see him as something other than just the bad guy. There are some things that stay true to his character. He's ruthless, strong, a hard worker, and a leader. He doesn't care for much when he was thrown away, but he cares about his Iron Dogs. The loss of any one of them hurts him and he finds a way to go on now that the person he was most loyal to discarded him.

Love, love, love this story! A spinoff from the Kate Daniels world featuring the man you love to hate, Hugh D'Ambray. Elara is more than his match and I love the interplay between these two. Amazing story. Can't wait for the rest of the series.
