One thing you have to know about me, is that I loved Scooby Doo as a kid. The show is probably what hooked me on mysteries. So, when I see things with different takes on it (such as Scooby Doo Apocalypse comic) I just have to check it out.

This novel did not disappoint.

This is like Scooby Doo with Lovecraft elements thrown in. Now, Lovecraft I'm not a huge fan of, but I like the elements worked really well in this book. The meld was great. So, they haven't solved mysteries, they barely spoke to each other, but they decide it is time to go back and revisit their last case...

I loved the characters. Kerri was a bit meh to me, but Scooby-- I mean, Tim is a riot. I love how the dog was described. Each character handled their trauma, grief, and bravery differently and I think it made all the difference. The side characters aren't developed much, buuuuutt they aren't truly important, right? So, I loved the crew. Also, Andy is a lesbian...I think, so yay representation in a main character! LET ME SHOOT OUT A WARNING THOUGH: How a certain character or two interact with Andy isn't appropriate or tolerant. I'm not counting this as a negative for the book though, because unfortunately that is how life is.

The way the mystery develops is entertaining. There were a few confusing moments for me which I was able to work out and the ending took me by surprise. But, I think that along with the monsters, those slightly confusing and 'wow just go with it' moments are Lovecraft elements. Not always believable--definitely need to suspend belief in some places, but there is still that thread of possibility that ties it together.

Now, I did find a few moments to be rather...dull :/ I felt like I was waiting or the characters spent too much time on something. -> Totally might just be something that bothered me. Another weird thing, is that sometimes the dialogue is written like a script...

But then other times, it was written out like a normal book-- paragraph form. So, I don't want to say I disliked it, because sometimes these were the moments that had me laughing the most! I think the changing of writing just threw me out of the book once or twice. I'm also not sure if it was supposed to emphasize anything... might have missed that :/

Anyhow, if you like mysteries with real monsters solved by amateurs with their trusty dog, then you should totally check this one out!

How I feel about this book. I wanted to love it so much. But idk there was so off things about it just didnt work for me. I just dont know. I love some stuff but not so much on the other parts. I feel so conflicted.
