I was delighted to find a hardback copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this weekend for only two dollars. Great price! Since this is technically the eighth book in the series, I am going to be writing this review under the assumption that you, like me, have already devoured previous installments. I fought with myself over whether this fanfiction deserves one or two stars. Why J.K. Rowling added her name, I don't know and won't speculate. I would have preferred to have read the short story this script is based off of. Couldn't they have included it?

Reading the story in script format tended to leave the meat a little dry for my taste; it lacked the depth of a novel in its narrative distance, and short of the nuances and performance value of a stage production, the experience was flat. I enjoyed the story line. My fondest wish would be for J.K. to take the story and flesh it out. The time spent with Harry, Ron, and Hermione felt like a visit with old friends - I miss them...

This book didn't feel like a normal Harry Potter book. It could be because of the format of the book, or because Harry, Ron and Hermione aren't in school anymore... There is just something about this book that I'm not okay with and I have struggled to realize what it is.
The concept I found to be a bit of a cop out. I know that the plot can be more complex and I found it basic.
