Obviously, the person who consulted the author on the Russian words used as word-building staples either wasn't very knowledgeable in Russian or simply pulled a prank on her:
-'Grisha' - is Russian shortened version for George or maybe Greg - 'Гриша' stands shortened for 'Григорий' ('Grigori'). What the hell is so magical about an average George or even a bunch of them, I have no idea.
-'Otkazat'sya' is a Russian verb meaning 'to refuse' in nothing other than an infinitive form - 'отказаться'. Why ...more

I can't watch the Netflix series unless I read the books... because that's how my brain works.
I blew through Shadow & Bone in 2 days which is a record for me these days due to all the crap I got going.
Loved the strange world and pace of the story, even when it dragged quite a bit "at court".
Did not love the stereotypical YA Fantasy heroine (who is the most powerful of them all) who seems to have no sense of self outside the framework of who she is to 2 different men. Mal, who I didn't feel an ...more

I was excited to read a fantasy book based in Russia because I wanted some fresh ideas and perspectives. The writing was fluid and the characters had some interesting personality traits, however, I never felt like I was in Russia per se, I could have been in any countryside or manor or palace. A few Russian words were sprinkled in here and there but that was about it.

Ok I’d just like to know why does the Scribd ebook have 80+ pages of preview of Seige and Storm and Six of Crows? I know I FINISHED but I feel so confused by this action that I just don’t know how to feel. RTC
