I last read this as a kid- someone had given me a very heavily abridged children's version of the story, and I really liked it because I was fascinated by ocean life and exploration. The edition I just finished is the unabridged version, nearly 500 pages long. I really enjoyed it, especially all the lists of fish, animals, and plants they encountered.
