I liked Nightwalker it was a good start to what looks to be an interesting series. I'm not going to lie, for the first part I couldn't keep focus on it. I'd pick it up read for a bit and find my mind going elsewhere. It was slow starting for me and I feared that it wasn't going to be as good as I had hopped it would be. But like little trooper I am and yes as soon as I typed the words trooper I put on Iron Maiden. But anyways back to the book :P

Nightwalker was pretty good series starter, though at the beginning of the book I found preening, posturing and vampire games of the leading character Mira annoying at times, but once Mira is drawn back into the battle with the terrifying ancient enemy, and Mira stops acting the role of the classic vampiress, I got hooked. When Mira is forced to deal with the more powerful older vampires who are manipulating her, we get to see her vulnerablility. Combine that with Mira's determination to fight-o Nightwalker was pretty good series starter, though at the beginning of the book I found preening, posturing and vampire games of the leading character Mira annoying at times, but once Mira is drawn back into the battle with the terrifying ancient enemy, and Mira stops acting the role of the classic vampiress, I got hooked. When Mira is forced to deal with the more powerful older vampires who are manipulating her, we get to see her vulnerablility. Combine that with Mira's determination to fight-on despite her terrifying memories and Mira ends up being a strong and interesting character beneath the vampire veneer. Her uneasy ally Vamp-hunter Danaus is a mystery but I liked that with his own ingrained sense of honor, he recognized the same trait in Mira and begins to question the black/white world view that he has nurtured during the his centuries of hunting Mira's people.

In spite of my early 'vamp issues', I ended up liking Nightwalker. Once it really gets going, there is a good amount of action -- though it is bloody -- and a decent background plot with some surprises. And Danaus is intriguing, so it will be interesting to learn some of his secrets as the series progresses and we get to see if he and Mira will end up battling to the death or become something more than grudging allies.

****SYNOPSIS ***
With her power of fire Mira is unique among the vampire Nightwalkers. As the Naturi, an ancient fae race and enemy to human and Nightwalker both, resurfaces Mira is approached by Danaus, a vampire-hunter who is more than the human he initially seems. Putting off the pleasure of 'ending' each other until later, Danaus and Mira come to an uneasy alliance in order to share knowledge of the enemy. But Mira cannot remember how the Naturi were defeated in the past, she only remembers that she suffered at their hands and the memory awakens in Mira nightmares of the torment that she endured. Now, with Danaus at her side, Mira is sought by allies & enemies alike for her power and it is not always clear who her friends really are.

I re-read this book as I just bought the whole series for my Kindle and is has been a while since I read this one, but once I got a few pages in, it all came flooding back to me! I loved it!

Mira is a female vampire, a very strong one too as she is the leader of her district. Shelves: audio, pnr-uf, wispersync-for-voice, z-2013

I started out with the audio on this one, while the narrator is good, I don't like the voice she gives the characters when listening I found myself tuning out and getting frustrated at how the characters sounded so after about 50% is switched over to the book and ended up finishing in a couple of hours.

This was a good start to an interesting series...off to start book 2 now ...more
