Although After the Night is on a lot of best classic romance (and certainly romantic suspense) lists, I put this one off for years. Well, my instincts were right. It takes a lot for me to say this, but the hero (Gray) was too much of a jerk (until -- suddenly -- he wasn't), the heroine (Faith) didn't seem to have a lick of sense, and I identified the villain the first time s/he was introduced. MProtag is a total douche-canoe, but FProtag is awesome so that makes up for a lot. No idea what she ever saw in him and it's not realistic that she would have given him the time of day IRL. Otherwise the book is very well written but there are *soooo* many issues that don't survive scrutiny in 2021.
