I'd probably have appreciated these tales more if I weren't a grown woman. The language was dry and repetitious. The tales were mostly entertaining and given to a more linguistically skilled storyteller would likely brilliant. But alas, I read Howard Pyle's words and though it took me nearly two months(!) to finish it, I'm glad that I did.
