Originally I was going to mark this book with 4 stars, but with the way it ended I'm only going to give it 3.5. I really enjoyed Hardy's writing, especially his descriptions of the countryside and the people occupying it. But my problem with this book was and always will be, Bathsheba. She will always hold a mixture of love and hate in my heart. While in the end I think she picked the right man for herself, I HATED the way she circuitously went about it. Surprisingly undepressing!
My past encounters with Thomas Hardy have made me think he’s a miserable git but this was a very satisfying read. Well done Tom.

Since my sister loves this book, I was very curious.
However, I just could not get into the story line and was just very bored.
I did like the main character and her independence and ambition, but that was probably the only thing.
