I really liked this book. I kept smiling and laughing throughout. It had well rounded characters. At the beginning I was worried that Jared seemed a little flat, but his character improved as his chapters went on. The ending was good, felt like a final book, so I'm wondering what the next one will be about. ...more

This is AMAZING!

Ms Wright has once again, created a world with awesome characters. Considering the fact that I love her first in series Here Be Sexist Vampires so so much, I am almost afraid to have expectation. This is the second novel in Suzanne Wright's Deep in your vein series and the second of three novels, Here Be Sexist Vampires, The Bite That Binds and Taste of Torment which focus on the relationship between a Sevente vampire, Sam Parker - newest recruit to the Grand High Master's legion due to her very strong powers not usually held by her breed and Pagori vampire Jared Michaels - squad commander within the Grand High Master's legion and chosen heir of the Grand High Master. Though each novel i This is the second novel in Suzanne Wright's Deep in your vein series and the second of three novels, Here Be Sexist Vampires, The Bite That Binds and Taste of Torment which focus on the relationship between a Sevente vampire, Sam Parker - newest recruit to the Grand High Master's legion due to her very strong powers not usually held by her breed and Pagori vampire Jared Michaels - squad commander within the Grand High Master's legion and chosen heir of the Grand High Master. Though each novel is an encapsulated story which wraps up the main story nicely, it is best to read the novels in series order to avoid spoilers and get the full story arc of Jared and Sam as it develops.

The storyline continues to be interesting and the characters well rounded. You care about what happens to the goodies and rejoice in the baddies getting their comeuppance. The grammar and spelling are much improved on 'Here be sexist vampires' and there's a real step up in in writing style that elevates the novel tremendously.

About the 'Deep in your veins' universe
The Deep in your vein series lends an interesting twist to the vampire genre by introducing different breeds with psychic powers and an associated caste system and a vampire court.

At the top of the food chain are the Pagori, gifted with the strongest psychic powers, physically stronger and larger than all other vampires, their only drawback is their intense bloodlust. Next are the Keja. Keja vampires are intensely alluring and hypnotically beautiful, bespelling human and vampire alike. Finally you have the Sevente, they are the least powerful and as such are looked down upon by Keja and Pagori as tame and human-like. Sevente can pass for human and often live in the human world. Sevente saliva is an aphrodisiac that works on humans and vampires.

In terms of the vampire power structure, might is all and those with the strongest gifts (usually Pagori and Keja) rise to become master vampires. Every vampire is linked to a master vampire who in turn are ruled by the Grand High Master.
