Obsidian (Lux, #1) in Vampires, Weres and Fae!

Come on now let’s just agree that everyone needs some good old-fashioned smut every now and then, that being said, Obsidian: Lux, Book 1 fits this niche with perfection. I do have to say that I could see many Twilight elements in this story as well. A dark, brooding and very mysterious bad boy that every female in a small town is lusting after but none have registered a blip on his radar. Well, that is until a pretty new girl moves to the middle of nowhere and turns his world upside down. Well, that is until a pretty new girl moves to the middle of nowhere and turns his world upside down. Both bad boy and new-to-town-girl are totally smitten with each other but totally fighting their attractions. Girl discovers that boy is not human, and he demands that she stay away for her own safety and that she must keep their secret or be killed. Much to both of their astonishment they fall in love and try to live with their differences. See what I mean? Twilight déjà vu? Don’t get me wrong, I am a die-hard Twilight fan, so the close related story is just fine by me!
When I read the blurb, I was delighted to find that the story is set in West Virginia! I have lived and grown into the fabulous bibliophile that I am here in West Virginia my entire life! Normally authors do not choose my remote corner of the world as their setting, so I was already intrigued! Throughout the story, it became clear that Ms. Armentrout did her research and knows a few things about my lovely state, so I decided to play sleuth myself! Turns out she lives here in WV and that is where she gets her inspiration from! Thank you, Meg, for recommending this book series to me! I am a total fan!
The characters are very relatable and even though it is Twilightish, the reader could easily imagine themselves in the story and falling head over heels for Daemon as well. I laughed out loud too many times to count! The plot moves along with ease, there is too much wit to adore in one sitting, and a constant smile was pasted on my face! Plus, the main character is a total book nerd and blogger herself! Thus, making the reader totally relate to her plight in falling for a perfect male drawn up right from one of her books!
Normally, I am totally into High Fantasy with minimal romance but now Lux is on my guilty pleasure list! Happy reading!!!!

July 16, 2023: This book was such a fun read. It was a young adult book and at first felt almost too young for me. But eventually, the relationship developments sucked me into the story. I had forgotten the majority of the book and it was nice to reread a book during my book slump.

surprisingly good. 3.5 stars. it wasn't as poorly written as twilight but had a pile of the same qualities. like, almost all of the same set up. (lonely girl moves from big city with one parent, meets people with weird powers, he's the best at everything and is best looking. etc etc.)

fortunately for this story. the main character has a bit more backbone.
