I enjoyed the story, loved/hated the characters with exuberance. I was intrigued by the mythology around the edges. I wanted to kiss the ground and scream "thanks book gods for finally doing it right" but I didn't I would have probably gotten smacked by a falling book for that. I love the feeling of greediness when I finish a book.

DNF @ 33% - A third of the book in and nothing really happens excepting whining teenage angst and very little character or plot development - At 45 years of age I don't have the time or inclination to continue on with this drivel.

It's funny. I have to say that at first I really wasn't sure about this book or this author. I guess it just took me a bit of reading to get into it.
I have loved Greek mythology ever since I first read Edith Hamilton in high school. That's what first drew me to this series. Now having read the first book, I'm hooked.

I do have a small confession to make, though: I was also intrigued by the beautiful covers. I know, I know . . . never judge and all that. But some part of me just loves an aesthetic ...more

I cried.

Yes, you read that right. The book made me cry!

Which is awesome. It means I was emotionally invested in the characters and their journeys. And it wasn’t an investment that took a lot of arm twisting. No, Armentrout had me from chapter one. Actually, she had me from the first 250-words because I’d seen a vlog of Half-Blood done by Elena Solodow. The book backed the first page/chapter with ease. I was never disappointed, and better yet, I never felt like putting it down. ~~~ No Spoilers ~~~

Actually, she had me from the first 250-words because I’d seen a vlog of Half-Blood done by Elena Solodow. The book backed the first page/chapter with ease. I was never disappointed, and better yet, I never felt like putting it down.

Half-Blood is a very character driven story. Meaning, Alex in any plot/setting/circumstances would hold my attention. Alex is snarky every chance she gets, funny when she should be crying, and rebellious always. She’s also somewhat of a broken person, but her stubbornness doesn’t allow her to see how broken she really is. On the other hand, she’s weak and real. She’s a girl who’s lost everything she knew, and still has so much more to lose. And Aiden is one of those things.

You’ve all read those young adult books where the angst is so heavy it’s like eating a bottle of syrup sans pancakes—or waffles—well, this is not one of those books. Alex develops feelings for Aiden st. Delphi (swoon), and it isn’t a whirlwind type of thing that raises questions of believability. In fact, Alex is pretty good at denying her feelings for Aiden and everything else. Stubborn, remember? But not angsty.

The Major plot twist slapped me in the face and spun my head around. Yeah, that’s what we want to happen. You don’t see it coming, but the clues are all there. Cos you know I had every sentence running through my head once it was out. Armentrout did good with this one.

But…

…the book is predictable at times; meaning, I figured out most of the plot twists long before they happened. This, by no means, ruined the book for me. So if you’re a plot buster by nature, this should be a fairly simple one for you. But if you don’t try to figure plots out, then, you’ll hit every OMG moment the author has set up for you. And there are many!
