King Solomon's Mines is the granddaddy of all adventure stories, and it is a really fun read, despite the main characters contracting the TSTL (Too Stupid To Live) virus towards the end of the book. This book was written in 1885 and it reflects the values and mores prevalent at the time, so the modern reader has to take some of this novel with massive grains of salt.
