As I turned the last page of City of Bones, I decided that Cassandra Clare is the Dan Brown of YA urban fantasy. She throws every pantry ingredient into the mixing bowl and then blends it on high speed; she propels you along a never ending trail of twists, turns, and reversals. But, like Dan Brown, whether it's literary or not, it's fun. My young teen daughter really wanted to read this book. At that time I read every book before letting her read them to make sure they were appropriate for her age and so she would have someone to discuss the book with when she was finished.

Didn't like the main character at all. She's really dim. And all she does is scream. Story is lukewarm. Maybe I'll read the next one in the series to see if it gets better.
