So this is not the first time I have read this book. I actually read this book and a couple of others in The Sookie Stackhouse Series 3 years or so ago. I really wanted to get back into the series after watching True Blood for the first time recently and had decided to start from scratch because 1. I never finished the series and 2. I had forgotten alot about the books. The TV series is obviously based on the books but there is nothing like reading the books and there are some differences. I just love Charlaine Harris' imagination and writing style. You actually feel at times you are in the book and watching all of the events going on. I was really not sure when I first read this book that I was going to enjoy it...I was not so interested in 1. Mystery 2. Paranormal and 3. Vampire books. But after reading this book I have to say that is what kicked off my vampire obsession!

Dead Until Dark is about a waitress, Sookie Stackhouse, working in a bar/diner in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Everybody knows everybody in this small town and that is why Sookie has a non existent love life. The whole town knows that there is something not quite right with Sookie, she is either slow or crazy. But the truth is Sookie has the gift of reading peoples minds which makes it hard for a girl to concentrate!
Sookie is working at Merlottes one night when a mysterious vampire, the first one she has ever seen, shows up at her station. Vampires have finally been able to mainstream with humans because there has been a synthetic blood substitute made that allows vampires to drink that instead of feed off humans. From the first time Sookie serves this Vampire Bill her whole life is turned upside down and will never be the same. Shortly after getting involved with Bill, 4 women turn up dead one by one in her tiny town and it looks like she is on the killers list and she is not sure if the killer is human or vampire or quite possibly her own brother Jason. Will Sookie be the next victim? Well obviously not because there are more books to this series. But is a great read and really surprising when you find out who the killer is! ...more

Very disappointing. OK, I've read rave reviews of this series and couldn't wait to read them. I thought this was a paranormal romance and I think that was my downfall, I was expecting something along the lines of the Night Huntress series. Although I found this book and characters entertaining, I thought the writing style was not up to par with what I'm used to.
