I really wanted to love this book. Really. But, I did not. I did, however, want to know how it ended. And, I will freely admit that the end surprised me. But, I think that was as much because I did not care enough to contemplate the whos whys and wherefores - I only wanted to finish.

I've heard such good things about this series and I even REALLY liked this author's book Feed. So, during a book hangover after reading Lake Silence by Anne Bishop (seriously that series kills my desire to read anything else), I noticed the library had this book in and I found myself interested in reading it. I'll pick up anything I'm interested in reading during a book hangover. My excitement began high and slowly dropped after chapter 4....

I should preface this by saying that I'm a big fan of the Fever series and was really hoping to find something similar. The first book in the October Daye series didn't hit the mark, but I have found that to be the case with a lot of other series that I ended up falling in love with so I'm contemplating giving the second book a try. The big issue is that I tried very hard to like the October Daye character but when she got hurt and I didn't worry about her welfare, I realized that she didn't win

i took a break in the middle to read skeleton song, which i loved.
this though, this i did not. REALLY repetitive. how many times do i need to read that she can't say thank you, and why is she a detective when she seems to be the dumbest person in the entire book? I ended up skipping a bunch of pages just to see if all of the foreshadowing was correct. it was. ...more
