The book is a bit stop and go, but the author finds her flow relatively early on. It looks at magic and fae (and more) life mixed in with the human world. It’s a refreshing take and nice to have modern life mixed in. There are parts that the main character references other things that she’s been through and done, but so briefly that those parts made me feel like I missed something and that maybe this isn’t the first book or I wasn’t in on the inside story. Seanan McGuire has created such a complex Fae world. From the characters to their kingdoms. Most of the paranormal books I read also include romance, this one has very very little as in almost non-existent but I was shocked to still enjoy it just as much. I am glad I already have the next two books in the series so I can continue adventures with October Daye.
