Well this was a refreshing pov. I really enjoyed this up until the middle of it because I expected more, I guess.
There is not one character that is not likeable though at the same time they're not insanely loveable either. Just in the middle, probably playing it safe. Maybe that is why for me this book did not have the effect it might have for others?

I could not get into this. Everything is narrated. There’s little action to back up claims. She’s supposed to be a really good vampire but she’s not very impressive.

It took me 3 tries to get into this book and finally by chapter 3 or 4 it got me in its grip. It was a slow, boring start. I just had no interest in Merit at all. She gets better though. This book is focused pretty much on vampires but with reference to other supernatural creatures. I'm interested to see how the world building expands as it's very limited right now. re-read 4/23

I read the first 4 or 5 of the Chicagoland Vamps series when they were first released and then lost track of new additions, so I thought I'd give the series a reread.

My tastes have changed apparently. The story isn't BAD it's just... basic. My expectations from my PNR have evolved and I require more complex characters, world building and a much better romantic buildup... this one has the smell of 'fated mates' and that's my least favorite trope.
