Well. I will say for this one that there is no love triangle. That is probably the best thing I can say for it. It really frustrated me.

First, we begin the book (very slight early spoilers ahead) with our heroine being sexually assaulted. Because she is our intrepid heroine, she fights him off and makes it home. She is also on friendly terms with half the police department, and it STILL takes her some time to report the assault. (I find this to be quite appropriate - it is a VERY hard thing to r Well. Then, two nights later, upon laying eyes on our hero, she immediately must have sex with him. Now, right NOW. Sigh. I never like instalust - but so soon after being sexually assaulted? Puulleezze.

Another thing that really bugged me was the multiple points of view. Now, this is quite normal in paranormal romance, but they really seemed to jump with too much frequency here. I barely got into one head when I was pushed into another. At least give me some time to acclimate before moving on. (Maybe it is just my ADD kicking in . . . ) Also, not unusually, we get put into the mind of the bad guy. I never enjoy being in the bad guys head. But, it seemed to me that we spent more time there when we got there than we did with the good guys. Maybe, it was just relative - I didn't enjoy it so it seemed longer. I do not know, but I was not a fan.

I was not a real fan of the world. First of all, I am not a huge fan of vampires. I tolerate them in other worlds because they are not the main focus. I've even found a couple worlds where I enjoyed them. (Cat and Bones come to mind . . . ) But, there needs to be something special to pull me in. I did not find that here. Also, it took entirely too long to understand the nuances between "lessers", "civilians", and "brothers". Not sure I really understand where they all came from even at this point.

I will say that the story and characters carried me enough that I wanted to finish their story. I never wanted to toss my tablet across the room. This two things are actually quite impressive. I really liked Butch and Jose . . . and the butler . . . but I do not care enough about any of them to move on with the world.

I'm giving it 3 stars - probably 2.5 - but I'm pushing it to 3 because I never tossed my tablet.

PS - also a pet peeve - blond is spelled both blond and blonde . . . . pick a spelling. :D ...more
