Truly Madly Irritating
This is one of those books where the big event that effects everyone isn't revealed until halfway thru the book. Moriarty teases the reader with possibilities of what it is to leave you guessing, which I didn't, yet I was annoyed at having to read so much before I got there. It was all a bit anti-climatic and a bit whiny with all characters at the end. Not her best effort by far. ...more

There are very few writers whose new books I feel I must read as soon as they are published. Liane Moriarty is one of those writers.
While I would rate her last novel, Big Little Lies as ever so slightly better than her latest, Truly Madly Guilty, Truly Madly Guilty does not disappoint. As usual, Moriarty is a master of building up tension and teasing out an explosive mystery with one bombshell revelation after another. In Truly Madly Guilty, we get four major revelations (view spoiler) ...more

I could be experiencing some recency bias but I think this is my new favorite by Moriarty. It certainly redeems my meh attitude about her work after Nine Perfect Strangers.
This book is well written, witty, happy, sad and every stage in between. The twists in the plot kept it interesting. Highly recommend!

I have such mixed feelings about this book! First things first though- as is mentioned in just about every other review, you REALLY need to have a lot of patience to get through the first half of this book. The plot is exceedingly slow-moving and it's frustrating when you keep reading "what happened that day..." and "what if we hadn't gone" and all of these other teasers. Tease after tease after tease and the whole time I'm thinking "Jesus, the big reveal better be good with all of this buildup!

It took me some time to get into the book and 1/4th the way through I was ready to give up. But I'm so glad I stuck with it because as in all Liane Moriarty's books the characters are built so well and are so well delved in to, in the end I was rooting for them all.
